Background
A nation development has never been separated from components of government resources, economic power, social and cultural growth, environmental changes as well as geographical challenges. All of those components are both impacting and impacted by health development in variety of relationship mechanisms. Government resource is a crucial component in the process of health development, in which, it is strongly related toward political elements as part of the development cycle. Strengthening synergism between politics and health become fundamental for more optimal and sustainable nation development.

Politic can be defined as four classification (according to Heywood, 2000), such as politics as government, politics as community life, politic as conflict resolution, and politic as power, which indicate massive variation within the conceptualization of politics. Those perspectives lead to direction towards certain national policy and strategy, including in health development.

Challenges will obviously appear under the situation where politic and health are having different or may be opposite mission and direction. Many countries have experienced challenging situation when political disruptions lead to uncertainty and risk on several public issues including in health. Each of political party seems to show unclear boundary between organization self-interests and public health demands and needs. In this case, a key challenge includes how politics and health can have mutual understanding and creates supportive structures that put public health values as part of other values in a country’s development.

Three main aspects that contribute significantly in the politic and health development cycle, include health financing, sovereign health resources, health promotion and prevention approaches. Those aspects are important part in the health development and need to be implemented in comprehensive and sustainable concepts. Health financing is substantially important to ensure health care delivery is properly filled the need in both supply and demand sides. Health resources need to be adequately available and preventing health inequity and inequality in all community settings to ensuring ‘no one left behind’. Health promotion and prevention are still one of best buy concept for healthy life style, reducing health risk behavior and environment health risk, improved life expectancy with better quality of life, and infectious disease and non-communicable diseases prevention and control.

National Institute of Health Research and Development Ministry of Health Republic of Indonesia has routinely conducted an international symposium in 2012, 2014, and 2016, which resulted strong health leaders’ commitments and policy recommendation towards optimal public health development at the national and global levels.
